There’s been a lot of construction traffic lately along the streets in my neighborhood. It’s noisy and sometimes dangerous.
During my morning walk, I saw something that made my day.
A truck from our rural electric cooperative eased to a stop at the side of the road, where a box turtle, interrupted during its crossing, hunkered down, head and legs inside its shell.
The passenger-side door opened and a worker stepped out. He gently lifted the turtle and carried it to safety, careful to move it in the direction it had been headed.
I stopped to thank the man as he returned to his vehicle.
He grinned at me, as he climbed inside. “Yes, ma’am.” The utility crew went on its way.
I am grateful for little reminders that kindness is not dead, even during these dark days.
